Australian Adelaide light cruiser

 

Australian Adelaide light cruiser (HMAS Adelaide) at sea in May 1941.

The Adelaide cruiser belonged to the Town class light cruisers and was upgraded several times.

The Adelaide cruiser was built in Australia in 1915-1922; accepted into the fleet on August 5, 1922. Since 1928 he has been in reserve. Returned to the Australian Navy on 13 March 1939.

From September 1939 to September 1940, the Adelaide cruiser accompanied Allied sea convoys in the coastal waters of Australia.

In September-October 1940, the Adelaide cruiser was in New Caledonia, then returned to escorting convoys in the coastal waters of Australia and in the South Indian Ocean.

On November 28, 1942, the Adelaide cruiser sank the German raider “Ramses”.

Since February 1945, the Adelaide cruiser has been in reserve.
Adelaide cruiser withdrawn from the Navy on May 13, 1946; cut into metal in 1949.
