Convoys, also Northern convoys, sea convoys that delivered military cargo to the USSR under the Lend-Lease Act during World War II. They departed from the ports of England and Scotland through the Atlantic Ocean and the seas of the Arctic Ocean to Arkhangelsk and Murmansk. The passage of the Arctic convoys was accompanied by a covering group with stubborn battles between the British and German fleets.
Northern convoys delivered to the USSR about half of all cargo sent under the Lend-Lease Act. A total of 78 convoys (about 1,400 merchant ships) were conducted from August 1941 to May 1945.
