Former Lieutenant General of the Wehrmacht Anton Dostler (1891-1945) – German general, sentenced to death on charges of shooting 15 American saboteurs who surrendered on March 26, 1944.
Anton Dostler was shot on December 1, 1945.
American judges rejected the arguments of the general’s lawyers that the general was only broadcasting an order from a higher command. This precedent was later used at the Nuremberg Trials, where references to higher command were not recognized.
