An injured air gunner from a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber

 

Injured American aerial gunner of the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber Alva Parker from the US Air Force lies on a stretcher after being bandaged on the USS Saratoga (CV-3).
The photo of the injured air gunner was taken on November 5, 1943 after a raid by American carrier-based aircraft on the Japanese base Rabaul (New Guinea).
Injured aerial gunner Alva Parker sustained shrapnel wounds over a Japanese ground target from a close burst of a Japanese anti-aircraft shell.
