The invasion of Normandy: The American soldiers of the 16th Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army are hiding from the Nazi shelling, hiding behind anti-tank “hedgehogs” on Omaha Beach. D-day.
The photojournalist for Life magazine Robert Kapa boarded the Omaha Beach along with the first Marines landed here under the heavy fire of the German coastal defense. Caught under fire, Kapa was forced to dive under the water with the camera in order not to fall into the sight of the German machine-gunners. He miraculously did not die.
