American soldiers and pilots around the German medium tank Panzer V “Panther” No. 215 from the 2nd Battalion of the 6th Panzer Regiment of the Wehrmacht on the road to Pont-Hebert north of Saint-Lo.
Next to the tank – pilots of P-47 fighters “Thunderbolt” from the 366th fighter group based near Saint Pierre du Mont. The names of the pilots: Bayard B. Taylor, Henry Collins, Joe Richmond.

At the beginning of the Battle of Normandy, the American pilots asked to indicate to them the weak and vulnerable places of the German tanks.
