American rangers inside the landing ship in the English port are waiting for a signal to sail to the coast of Normandy.
One US ranger is armed with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher Bazooka M1, the other rangers are self-loading rifles M1 Garand. On the left is a mortar.
The extreme left is 1sg Sandy Martin (he will be killed during the invasion of Normandy), before him PFC Frank E. Lockwood, in the center of Joseph J. Markowitz, the far right – Cpl. John B. Loshiavo.
