From the very beginning of Raid Doolittle, the flight of the crew went wrong. Just before takeoff, a sailor passing by the plane slipped and the working propeller cut off his hand. The target of Lieutenant William G. Farrow’s crew was a fuel depot and an aircraft factory in Nagoya. However, the bombing did not give the expected results. The aircraft crew made an emergency landing in Japanese-controlled territory of China, not far from the city of Nangchang. An hour later, Lieutenant William G. Farrow was captured. The rest of the American pilots were captured within hours later. American pilot William G. Farrow and flight engineer Harold A. Spatz were executed by the Japanese on October 15, 1942.
