American experimental XB-38 bomber, the variant of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress with engines with liquid cooling Allison V-1710-89.
The XB-38 was designed in case the air-cooled Wright R-1820 engines that are normal for the B-17 are in short supply. This is the only built prototype ofXB-38, which crashed during its ninth flight on June 16, 1943.
