Group portrait of Albanian partisans on the streets of the capital of the country, liberated from the Nazis, Tirana.

After the capitulation of Italy on September 10, 1943, the Nazi Wehrmacht entered Albania and began disarming the Italian forces and fighting against the Albanian partisans. On June 14, 1944, the command of the People’s Liberation Army of Albania (NOAA), led by Enver Hoxha, issued an order to transfer the army, which by that time had 70 thousand people, to a decisive offensive against the German occupiers. After the entry into the Balkans of the Red Army, the Nazis began to withdraw their troops from the peninsula. On November 17, 1944, the capital of Albania, Tirana, was liberated by NOAA partisans.
