The 6th Marine Division is an infantry division of the United States Marine Corps that was formed during World War II in September 1944. During the invasion of Okinawa, she participated in the Battle of Yae-Take – the capture of Sugarloaf Hill. This Division of the United States Marine Corps also prepared for the invasion of Japan before the end of the war. After the war, the division served in Qingdao, China, where the division was disbanded on April 1, 1946, becoming the only Marine division to be raised and disbanded overseas and never set foot on U.S. soil.
