163rd Infantry Regiment

The first wave of US troops during the invasion of Wakde Island near the island of New Guinea (now part of Indonesia). In the photo, the 163st Infantry Regiment of the US Army landed on the shore from landing ships.

In the foreground is a hand grenade, lost by the infantrymen.
