World War 2 photo: American naval pilots of the US Navy are pleased with their victory in the battles for the Marshall Islands, posing near the tail of the F6F-3 Hellcat aircraft aboard the USS Lexington (CV-16) aircraft carrier. Pacific Theater of Operations, Second World War.
Shortly before this photo was taken, American naval pilots shot down 17 of the 20 Japanese aircraft during the battle in the Tarawa Atoll area.
