The commander of the battalion Volkssturm Major Walter Dönicke, who committed suicide in the New Town Hall of Leipzig, in order not to be captured by the American troops who captured the city on April 19, 1945.
Next to the body of Walter Dönicke lies a portrait of the Reich Chancellor of the Third Reich Adolf Hitler, torn from the wall before his death or when his body fell.
