Nazi crew during the transfer to the German Navy (Kriegsamarine) from shipbuilders (type VIIC) the U-408 submarine.
The submarine U-408 became part of the 11th German Kriegsmarine flotilla in Norway. The submarine operated against the northern naval convoys of the Allies. U-408 Drowned 3 vessels from convoy PQ-18 (Soviet steamship “Stalingrad” (carrying capacity 3,559 gross tons), American parachute Oliver Ellsworth (7,191 brt), English tanker Atheltemplar (8992 brt)). U-408 was sunk with the entire crew (45 people) on November 5, 1942, using deep-seated bombs of the US Navy’s Catalina bomber.
