The funeral of the deceased crew of the 638th night bomber air regiment (284th night bomber air division, the 15th Air Army). Lieutenant Pavel Alekseevich Znykin and his navigator died while performing a combat mission on August 17, 1944.
The officer on the left is the regiment commander, Major Karp Vasilyevich Shtovba.

According to the Memorial OBD, a pilot of the 638th Aviation Regiment, Lieutenant Pavel Alekseevich Znykin: “On the night of August 17-18, 1944, he died in a catastrophe resulting from the collision of two PO-2 aircraft”.
