The German crew of the U-873 submarine on the day of entry into the German Navy – the Kriegsmarine.

The commander of the German crew is lieutenant commander Friedrich Steinhoff (July 14, 1909 – May 19, 1945). He commanded U-511 (type IX-C) in 1941–1942, made 2 patrols, sank 2 ships (22,000 tons), damaged 1 ship. Friedrich Steinhoff committed suicide in a US prison two days after his surrender.

U-873 – type IX / D2, ordered on August 1, 1941, launched on February 17, 1943, put into operation on March 1, 1944. It belonged to 33 flotilla. Completed 1 combat patrol – March 30, 1945, Kristiansand (Norway) – May 17, 1945, Porstmouth, New Hampshire, USA. U-873 surrendered.
