Commanders of partisan formations communicate with each other after the delivery of government awards. From left to right: the commander of the partisan brigade named after Kravtsov in the Bryansk region Mikhail Duka, the commander of the Bryansk district partisan detachment Mikhail Petrovich Romashin, the commander of the United Partisan detachments and brigades of the Bryansk and Orel regions Dmitry Vasilievich Emlyutin, the commander of the Putivl detachment Sidor Artemyevich Kovpak, the commander of the partisan formation of Sumy and Bryansk regions Alexander Nikolaevich Saburov.

The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to Kovpak and Saburov on May 18, 1942, and to M. Duka, Romashin and Yemlyutin on September 1, 1942.
