Soviet soldiers of the Red Army dismantle brick fortifications around the Goethe and Schiller Monument in Weimar.
The protective “case” of brick for the Goethe and Schiller monument was built by the Nazis to protect the work of art from destruction during bombardments and shelling.
In the background of Soviet soldiers is the damaged building of the Weimar Theater.
