Viktor Kalashnikov began combat missions during the fighting over the Kuban in the spring of 1943. During World War II, he shot down 16 German airplanes personally and 4 in a group, 3 enemy aircraft Viktor Kalashnikov destroyed on the ground.
He made the last sortie on April 29, 1945, over burning Berlin.
War and graduated from the captain, squadron commander of the 291st Fighter Aviation Regiment (265th Fighter Division, 16th Air Army, 1st Belorussian Front). For courage and heroism shown in the fight against the Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 472 of May 12, 1997 retired lieutenant colonel Kalashnikov Viktor Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation.
