Soviet sniper of the 54th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Infantry Division of the Primorsky Army of the North Caucasus Front, Junior Lieutenant Lyudmila Pavlichenko. The photo was taken during her trip to England, the USA and Canada with a delegation of Soviet youth in the autumn of 1942.
Pavlichenko Lyudmila Mikhailovna was born in 1916, a participant of the Great Patriotic War from June 1941 – a volunteer. She is participant in defensive battles in Moldova and in the south of Ukraine. For good shooting training sent to the sniper platoon. Since August 1941, a participant in the heroic defense of the city of Odessa, personally destroyed 187 Nazis. Since October 1941, a participant in the heroic defense of the city of Sevastopol. In June 1942 Lyudmila Pavlichenko was wounded and recalled from the front line. By this time, from the sniper rifle Lyudmila Pavlichenko, 309 Wehrmacht and Waffen SS soldiers were killed, including 36 enemy snipers.
In October 1943, Lyudmila Pavlichenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal “Gold Star” (No. 1218).
