Lieutenant Rex T. Barber during the receipt of Navy Cross for participating in the operation to destroy the G4M “Betty” aircraft with the Japanese admiral Isoroku Yamamoto on April 18, 1943.
18 American fighters P-38 Lightning intercepted the aircraft from Admiral Yamamoto, who was traveling from Rabaul (New Britain) to the Solomon Islands with an inspection accompanied by six Zero fighters, and shot him down.
