“On this memorable day – May 9, 1945 – I approached the Reichstag. The wall was already painted by fellow soldiers-winners. I took a piece of plaster and on the free space on the wall and wrote: “May 9, 1945. Usachev”.
I did not know that I was photographed. Only after twenty-one years I saw myself in the picture …”
