The Soviet minelayer “Marti” of the Red Navy is the former imperial yacht “Standart”. With extensive modernization in 1935-1936, new steam engines and modern weapons were installed.
In the photo there is an inscription of the captain of the ship of the 1st rank Nikolai Iosifovich Meshchersky. Nikolai Meshchersky came from a noble family, but honestly served the Soviet government. His ship, as trained by the crew, was the best in the Baltic Fleet, one of the first in the Soviet fleet to become the Guardsman.
