The Soviet militiamen of the Kirov factory pass through the streets of Leningrad.
From the first days of the war, Kirov workers filed applications with the request to send them to the army, during the war more than 10,000 workers got to the front. In the summer of 1941 the first infantry regiment of the 1st Kirov division of the people’s militia, the fighter and tank battalions, 10 partisan detachments, the battalion of the NKVD troops, the sabotage and reconnaissance groups, the artillery battalion were formed from the Kirov workers. When, in early September 1941, the front line approached the plant, three workers’ squads and three companies were set up to defend it against enemy airborne assault forces.
