Soldiers of the 39th Infantry Brigade as part of the US Army’s 3rd Panzer Division cross the Siegfried Line. In the foreground the Sherman medium tank (M4A2 Sherman).

The Siegfried Line (Western Wall) is a system of German long-term fortifications built in the West of Germany in 1936-1940, in the border strip from Kleve to Basel.
