Lieutenant Jimmy Johnson (Lt. Jimmy Johnson) from the squadron of VMFA-112 (Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112) demonstrates damage inflicted on his Chance Vought F4U Corsair fighter.
The Lieutenant J. Johnson photo was taken at the airport after the battle of the VMFA-112 against the Japanese fighter A6M “Zero” over the Russell Islands. Visible damage is probably the result of a projectile hit by a Japanese Type 99 aircraft gun.
