Japanese “Tone” heavy cruiser, sunk in shallow water in the bay of Hiroshima to the west of Kure.
The Japanese Tone cruiser sank on July 24, 1945 after three air bombs fell from the aircraft of the light carrier carrier Monterey. It was finally finished on July 26, 1945 with rockets and 1000-pound (450 kg) half-armor-piercing bombs from the air group 86 with the aircraft carrier Wasp and the air group 87 from the carrier Tikonderoga.
