Hero of the Soviet Union Guard Captain 3rd Rank V. Starikov.
Valentin Georgievich Starikov was born in 1913, during the service in the Baltic Fleet participated in the Winter War of 1939-40, from October 31, 1939 – commander of the submarine of the 3rd Division of a separate submarine brigade of the Northern Fleet M-171.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 3, 1942, for the successful command of a submarine and heroism displayed in battles against the German fascist invaders, V. Starikov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
