Yakov Antonov

 

Hero of Soviet Union, Major Yakov Antonov 25 of the IAP (Fighter Aviation Regiment) in German captivity, surrounded by German pilots who listen with interest his counterpart. The conversation between the warring pilots are professional.

August 25, 1942, Jakov Antonov, carrying out the task of covering of attack German airfield near Mozdok, was shot down. According to Soviet records – he died. In fact, Yakov Antonov was shot down by the commander of the 77th Fighter Squadron of the German (JG 77), Major Gordon Gollob. Jacob Antonov bailed out, landed safely and was captured.
The further fate of the Soviet Pilot of the Red Army Air Force is unknown.
