The personnel of the New Zealand squadrons of flying boats (RNZAF No 6 Flying Boat Squadron), Halavo Bay, Solomon Islands. New Zealand supported the American pilots in the Battle of the Solomon Islands, carrying out reconnaissance and rescue operations.

In the photo the American multi-purpose flying boat the PBY-5 “Catalina» (Consolidated PBY-5 «Catalina»). Model PBY-5 – is the export version for the UK, Canada, Australia, France and the Netherlands. Hard to believe that the aircraft wings can bear the weight of so many people. But the scope of “Catalina” wing is 31.7 m, while the wing maintains the normal takeoff weight to 16,066 kg.
