57 Soviet citizens from among the Ostarbeiters were killed by the SS, and their bodies were hidden in a mass grave in the area of ​​the settlement of Suttrop.
Soldiers from the American 95th Infantry Division found the burial place with the help of informers. The bodies were exhumed to identify and consolidate the physical evidence of a war crime committed by the Nazis. The entire civilian population in the area was ordered to appear at the place of burial of the victims of the SS punishers.
