A Finnish soldier armed with a K31 Suomi submachine gun during battles for Vuosalmi.

The bloody battles near the village of Vuosalmi on the Karelian Isthmus between units of the 23rd Soviet Army and units of the Finnish soldiers from VI Army Corps, took place from July 4 to 18, 1944. During the fighting, after several unsuccessful attempts, the Soviet troops managed to force the Vuoksa River in the Vuosalmi area and create a bridgehead on the opposite bank.
