Explosion of the American maritime transport ship “Paul Hamilton” class “Liberty” (Liberty ship SS Paul Hamilton), torpedoed by the German torpedo carrier Junkers Ju.88 on April 20, 1944. On this Paul Hamilton transport, carrying ammunition, none of the 76 crew members and 504 soldiers survived. Paul Hamilton transport ship was part of the convoy UGS-38, which was attacked by 23 torpedo-bombers from III./KG 26, I. and III./KG 77 of the Nazi Luftwaffe, north of the Algerian coast.
