Explosion of an air bomb on the Japanese Kumano heavy cruiser. October 26, 1944 between 08.10 and 08.50 Kumano cruiser attacked by 12 US fighters of F6F, 4 SB2c dive- and 7 torpedo bombers TVM-1c from the air group of the”Hancock” aircraft carrier  (group TG38.1). The Japanese Kumano cruiser was hit by three 227-kg aerial bombs. Suffered 40 people from anti-aircraft automatic guns, the boilers No. 7 and No. 8 went out of order. During the emergency repair around 10.00 o’clock the Kumano cruiser repulsed three aircraft attacks with artillery of the main and auxiliary caliber and, by order of the command, left for Manila.
