RAF telegraphists (Royal Air Force) are posing against the background of the destroyed buildings of the Biggin Hill base.

They are facing the ruined buildings of the Royal Bigison Hill base in Kent. All three women are representatives of the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force).
As RAF telegraph operators, they remained in their posts, performing their duties during the ravage of German aviation on Biggin Hill on September 1, 1940.
