David Meister

Commander of the 144th Infantry Regiment of the 49th Guards Rifle Division Lubenchenko A. G. and Major David Meister commands a battle. Photo taken in 1945 in Hungary near Zsámbék town.

From left to right: regiment commander Andrei Grigoryevich Lubenchenko, commander of the regiment Grigory Rudenko, deputy regiment commander  David Meister, platoon commander Lieutenant Valentin Stezhin and an unknown radio operator. The photo is interesting because it shows David Meister just one hour before his death.

According to the veteran of this regiment commander of the mortar company V. V. Wojciechowicz, a few minutes after the photo, an unauthorized explosion of mines took place not far from this place and Major Meister was mortally wounded. He managed to take him to the Sanbat, but there he died.
