The corpses of the dead sailors of the American “Saratoga” aircraft carrier (USS Saratoga (CV-3) stored in one of the cabins of the ship.
On February 21, 1945, near the island of Iwo Jima, the aircraft carrier “Saratoga” was attacked by the Mammate No. 2 kamikaze group consisting of 32 aircraft (12 Susei bombers, 8 Tenzan torpedo bombers, and 12 Zero fighters). As a result of this attack, the aircraft carrier suffered serious damage (123 people were killed, 192 wounded, 42 aircraft were burned or were dropped overboard) and went for repair in the United States.
