Captain Masaji Kobayashi with model B-17 bomber


Japanese flying ace Captain Masaji Kobayashi holds a B-17 bomber model in hand, with which he instructed his pilots. Japanese pilots were trained with the help of a real aircraft B-17E, which was captured in Java in early 1942.

Enhanced training in action against American bombers carried out in connection with the incoming information on the construction of advanced US bases in China, and the assumption that the B-29 attack on northern Kyushu.
