The Calpe escort destroyer (HMS Calpe) (Hunt II type) is following a parallel course with the battle cruiser Renown (HMS Renown). In the background, the battleship Rodney (HMS Rodney). Mediterranean Sea.

The most striking combat episode in the biography of the Calpe escort destroyer was his participation (together with the American destroyer Wenwright (USS Wainwright (DD-419)) in the sinking of the German submarine U-593 (type VIIC) on December 13, 1943. This happened in western part of the Mediterranean Sea, at the point with coordinates 37.38N, 05.58E.
