The Trinidad cruiser was used mainly to escort the Allied Northern Sea Convoys.
On May 14, 1942, Trinidad light cruiser was subjected to aerial attacks by German Junkers Ju.88 bombers, which resulted in heavy damage. During these attacks, 63 sailors from the crew of the cruiser were killed. On May 15, 1942, it became clear that fires could not be brought under control, and the beginning daylight hours could cause repeated attacks by the Luftwaffe. It was decided to leave the cruiser. The destroyer “Machless” (HMS Matchless) three torpedoes sank the Trinidad cruiser, which soon sank.
