The US soldiers and US pilots around the German Panzer V “Panther” medium tank No. 215 from the 2nd Battalion of the 6th Panzer Regiment of the Nazi Wehrmacht on the road to Pont-Hebert to the north of Saint-Lo.
Next to the German tank is the US soldiers – pilots of P-47 “Thunderbolt” fighter aircraft from the 366th Fighter Group based near Saint Pierre du Mont. The names of the pilots: Bayard B. Taylor, Henry Collins, Joe Richmond.

At the beginning of the Battle of Normandy, the American pilots asked to indicate to them the weak and vulnerable places of the German tanks.
