The Soviet soldier of the Red Army examines the abandoned German Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. J medium tank of late modification with armored screens; in contrast to Ausf. M, there is no additional 20 mm armor plates on the frontal armor and the gun mask. In the background, another German tank – Pz.Kpfw. IV.

The image of the rider on the Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. J tank turret is the emblem of the 33 rd tank regiment of the 9th Panzer Division of the Nazi Wehrmacht. At the end of August 1943, the 9th Panzer Division from Army Group Center was transferred to Army Group South, at the beginning of September 1943, the 9th Panzer Division took part in the battles in Ukraine as part of the 6th Army, from the middle of September and further – as part of the German 1st Tank Army.
